Periodontal therapy refers to caring for the gum and bone structures that support your teeth. Many people suffer from some degree of periodontal (gum) disease and may not even know it. Gum disease is also called the "silent disease" because in most cases the disease must be quite advanced before any symptoms appear. At every visit to Riverstone Dental, you will receive a close examination of your gum tissue. If any issues are present, Dr. Taylor and Dr. Sigler will create a customized treatment plan to help you get back to optimal periodontal health and to maintain that health for the future. Your treatment may include the gentle removal of bacteria and debris from just beneath the gum line or a more advanced procedure that is performed over several visits. Whatever your needs, Riverstone Dental will ensure your healthy teeth and gums for years to come.
Perio Protect Method®:
Perio Protect® is a comprehensive method that is customized for individual patients to help manage biofilms, communities of bacteria, growing in the spaces or pockets between teeth and gum tissue. The overall goal of the Perio Protect Method is to manage oral biofilm with minimally invasive dentistry for lasting oral health. Brushing and flossing continue to be important, but even with standard homecare, 80% of Americans have some form of gum disease and need more help. Treatment is important and Perio Protect® can help.
Damage to the nerve tissue inside of a tooth sometimes requires a root canal procedure. Dr. Taylor and Dr. Sigler take advantage of advances in technology and dental techniques that make root canal procedures more effective while taking less time. The procedure involves removing the soft tissue within the tooth when it has become infected and inflamed. Dr. Taylor and Dr. Sigler gently remove the infected tissue and fill the void with an inert material. The procedure is completed with the placement of a crown.
In some cases, injury or decay damages a tooth extensively and an extraction is the proper treatment option to start you on the path toward complete dental health. Dr. Sigler and Dr. Taylor can remove your troublesome tooth and give you the treatment options for replacing that tooth and completing your beautiful smile again.
After decay is removed from your tooth, the area is protected and sealed with a filling material to restore the shape of the tooth and to prevent future decay in the same area. In the past, silver-amalgam fillings were common. However, Dr. Sigler and Dr. Taylor now offer tooth-colored fillings, which are more advanced in several ways.
A sealant is a plastic material that is usually applied to the chewing surfaces of the back teeth – premolars and molars. This plastic resin bonds into the depressions and grooves (pits and fissures) of the chewing surfaces of back teeth. The sealant acts as a barrier, protecting enamel from plaque and acids and guarding against disease-causing bacteria. Thorough brushing and flossing help remove food particles and plaque from the smooth surfaces of the teeth. However, toothbrush bristles cannot reach all the way into the depressions and grooves to efficiently extract food and plaque. Sealants protect these vulnerable areas by ‘sealing out’ plaque and food. Dr. Sigler and Dr. Taylor will evaluate every patient to determine if treatment with sealants would be a benefit to them. Many young adults have never experienced a filling appointment in their lifetime due to the application of sealants! Ask the Riverstone team if you are a candidate.
